Police seek information after a suspicious fire - Merrylands

Police are appealing for information after a suspicious fire in Sydney's west this morning.

Emergency services were called to Burford Street, Merrylands, about 3.40am (Tuesday 3 March 2020), responding to reports of a home on fire.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command found the home engulfed in flames.

No one was at the home at the time, but residents from unit complexes on either side of the property were evacuated as a precaution and were unable to return until 6am.

Officers from Fire and Rescue NSW brought the fire under control about 6am; however, the house had been destroyed.

Police have been told at about 2.45am an explosion was heard and, as a consequence, the fire is being treated as suspicious.
