Police Seek Leads in Nelson Bay Hit-and-Run

Police are appealing for information following a crash at Nelson Bay earlier today, where a vehicle allegedly failed to stop.

Just before 9am (Tuesday 13 January 2026), a 71-year-old man was walking his dog on Stockton Street, Nelson Bay, near the roundabout at Church Street, when he attempted to cross the road.

He paused briefly at the pedestrian traffic island in the middle of the road, before continuing to cross the road.

A vehicle described as a blue Ford Territory, or similar, entered the roundabout and clipped the man, impacting his left elbow and leg, and also struck the dog, killing it instantly.

The driver did not stop or provide details.

Officers attached to Port-Stephens Hunter Police District attended and have commenced an investigation into the incident.

As inquiries continue, police are hoping to speak to the driver of a blue Ford Territory wagon seen in the area at the time of the incident.
