Police seize road trail bikes after Riverside fatality, TAS

Northern police have again called on road trail bike riders to slow down and ride responsibly after two young men were detected hooning at the same location their friend died in yesterday’s fatal bike crash, Tasmania Police say.

The young men were detected speeding at 130km/h and 120km/h in a 70km/h zone around 7pm last night, with police seizing both their road trail bikes.

One of the riders failed to stop and evaded police. Both riders will be proceeded against for Speeding and Evade.

Acting Inspector Dean McMahon from Launceston Police said:

"I am shocked that such behaviour has occurred so soon after the tragic death of one of their friends.

"Yesterday’s terrible event should have been a definitive moment for the young men of Launceston who ride in this irresponsible manner to modify their negligent and dangerous behaviour.

"Young men are risking their lives or suffering serious injury by behaving in this way.

"No one wants to see the pain and suffering experienced by family and friends following an unnecessary tragedy such as a crash caused by hooning.

"If you are detected by police riding dangerously, there’s a high probability your bike will be seized."
