Police shooting, Bethania

A man has been shot after police answered a call for assistance at Bethania overnight.

Around 11pm last night, May 25, police responded to a Page Street unit block and observed a man inside a unit holding a gun. A woman, who was known to the man, was also present with the man inside the unit.

Officers immediately commenced negotiations.

The man allegedly opened the door and walked towards officers, threatening them with the gun.

Police shot the man and immediately rendered first aid.

The 48-year-old Bethania man was taken into custody and transported to hospital suffering a non-life-threatening wound to his leg.

The woman inside the unit with him was not physically injured.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident, overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
