Police shooting in Dandenong

A man is in hospital following a police shooting on Stud Road in Dandenong earlier this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

The incident happened after police intercepted a car on Grace Street at 4pm.

A male passenger got out of the car and ran from intercepting police, running through several backyards before allegedly attempting to steal a BMW sedan.

The driver of the BMW refused to get out of his car so the man continued running along Stud Road.

It is believed that the man confronted police with a firearm and was shot.

The man, who is still to be formally identified, was conveyed to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The incident will be investigated by Crime Command detectives with oversight by Professional Standards Command as per standard procedure.
