Police are currently at the scene of a police shooting in Park Orchards following an alleged armed robbery attempt, Victoria Police say.
The incident occurred at a bottle shop on Park Road about 9pm.
Investigators were in the area due to an active Crime Command investigation into armed robberies when they became aware of an alleged hold-up in progress.
A police member took immediate action, and when allegedly faced with a firearm a confrontation ensued.
As a result a man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the incident on behalf of the Coroner.
As per standard protocol following a police shooting, Professional Standards Command members will oversee the investigation.
The police member involved is receiving departmental support.
