Police treating death suspicious investigation, Mornington Island

Detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a 50-year-old man at Mornington Island yesterday.

Around 10am police were called to a Wurrurku Street residence where they located the man with what appeared to be a single stab wound to his upper abdomen deceased on the floor.

A crime scene was subsequently declared.

A scientific officer from Townsville and detectives from Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch along with the State Flying Squad have been deployed to the Island to assist in the investigation.

Investigators are speaking to family members and neighbours in an attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police are appealing for anyone with information in relation to the incident to please contact them.
