Police update 1: Appeal for witnesses - Fatal crash at Morayfield

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation into a fatal traffic crash at Morayfield overnight.

Investigations indicate at about 9pm, two men were riding a Yamaha CY50 along Caboolture River Road towards Morayfield Road when they were struck from behind by a dark coloured vehicle.

The dark vehicle, which is expected to have front end damage, then left the scene through the intersection with Morayfield Road and remains outstanding.

The pillion passenger of the moped, a 32-year-old Caboolture South man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The rider, a 30-year-old Caboolture South man, was transported to hospital for treatment of critical injuries where he remains.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch and the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

Anyone with information, dash cam or CCTV footage which may be able to assist with investigations is urged to come forward.
