Police Update 2: Suspicious Fire, West End

Officers from the Townsville Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 44-year-old man following a unit fire in West End on 3 July.

Around 9.05pm, police and emergency services were called to Percy Street to reports a number of units were on fire.

A 54-year-old West End woman was taken to Townsville University Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

Police will allege the fire was deliberately lit.

On 18 July, officers arrested a 44-year-old man at a Heatley address following extensive investigations.

A 44-year-old Lower Tully man has been charged with one count each of arson, possess utensils or pipes and failure to appear in accordance with undertaking.

He was refused bail and is due to reappear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on 12 September.
