Police Update 3: Fire Investigation, Harristown

Police have charged a 36-year-old woman following an investigation into a suspicious fatal house fire in Harristown on Wednesday May 7.

Emergency services were called to the Merritt Street property around 12.30am finding it engulfed by flames.

Following a search of the property, a body believed to be of a 9-year-boy, was discovered inside.

Later the same day, a 4-year-old girl and 7-year-old girl passed away at Queensland Children's Hospital from their injuries.

A 34-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy managed to escape the fire.

The 34-year-old man underwent surgery for serious injuries to his arm, while the 18 year old man and 11-year-old boy were treated for minor injuries.

Following an extensive investigation involving detectives from the Toowoomba Child Protection Investigation Unit with the assistance of the Homicide Investigation Unit, Child Trauma Unit and Specialist Forensic Units, police have charged a 36-year-old woman with three counts of murder (Domestic Violence offence), three counts of attempted murder (Domestic Violence offence) and one count of arson.

The matter is expected to be mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today, May 13 and adjourned to a future date.

The 36-year-old woman remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection to this incident.

Investigations remain ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
