Police update 4: Fatal traffic crash, Thuringowa Central

Police have arrested and charged a 17-year old male in relation to a fatal traffic crash in Thuringowa Central on Friday, February 5.

The male was arrested in South Mackay around 2pm yesterday afternoon.

He has been charged and denied police bail. He is due to appear in Mackay Childrens Court today on eight charges including five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of stealing.

It is alleged, just before 10pm on February 5, a Holden Statesman and a stolen Hyundai sedan were travelling along Ross River Road in a dangerous manner.

The two cars collided at the intersection of Ridley Road and Ross River Road causing the Holden Statesman to veer onto the incorrect side of the road and collide with a 22-year-old woman, who was riding her motorcycle.

The 22-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Holden Stateman has been charged with murder.

Three other people alleged to be in the stolen car have also been charged.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have any information regarding this incident or dash cam vision to contact police.
