Police Update: Armed Robberies At Gold Coast

Police have charged a man following investigations into two armed robberies on the Gold Coast on Sunday 22 February.

It will be alleged that around 5.45pm, a man armed with a hammer and with his face covered attended a convenience store on Mildura Drive at Helensvale, threatened the 30-year-old male employee, and fled with a sum of cash.

It will be further alleged that around 6.35pm, the same man entered a cake shop on Cottonwood Place at Oxenford and threatened the 39-year-old male attendant with a hammer, before fleeing with a sum of cash on a dark coloured moped.

No one was injured during either incident.

Following investigations, detectives located and seized a dark coloured Honda moped, belonging to a 20-year-old man, at an Oxenford address on Tuesday 24 February.

A claw hammer was allegedly located in a storage compartment under the moped's seat.

Yesterday, 25 February, detectives executed a search warrant on a different Oxenford address, where they arrested a 20-year-old man.

The 20-year-old Oxenford man has now been charged with two counts of armed robbery.

He is scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, 26 February.
