Police update: PSPA revoked, Kalkie

UPDATE: Police have now revoked the PSPA declaration following an industrial fire at Kalkie yesterday.

No one was physically injured as a result of the fire and it is not being treated as suspicious.

Police wish to thank the public for their understanding and all evacuated persons can return.

EARLIER: Police will overnight maintain an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) at Kalkie, but have since compressed the area.

The declaration's boundaries now consist of Zielke Avenue.

Emergency services continue to liaise with residents whose houses remain within the exclusion zone.

A decision around the continuation of the exclusion zone is expected to be made tomorrow morning.

PREVIOUS: Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) due to a large industrial fire burning on Zielke Avenue in Kalkie.

The declaration was made at 4.10pm with boundaries encompassing Sauers Road, Presslers Road, Bargara Road and Gahans Road.

Residents within the exclusion zone have been evacuated and are being urged to follow emergency service instructions.

Nearby residents are urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to large amounts of smoke in the area.
