Police update: Wounding at Mackay

Police have charged a man after the investigation of a wounding incident in Mackay yesterday.

At will be alleged around 5.30pm a disturbance occurred between three men at a James Street unit complex.

An initial altercation occurred between two men, aged 22 and 25, during which time one of the men threw a knife at the other man but missed him. The 25-year-old man sustained minor wounds to his hands trying to protect himself.

A 20-year-old man then came to the assistance of the 25-year-old man and sustained a stab wound to his back.

During the altercations, the 22-year-old man also sustained self-inflicted wound to his thigh.

The 22-year-old man from Mackay and the 20-year-old man from Beaconsfield were transported to the Mackay Hospital for treatment and both are in a stable condition.

The trio are known to each other.

The 22-year-old Mackay man was released from hospital and has been charged with one count each of wounding and grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court this morning, September 12.
