Police fire shot at car during attempted ramming in Hampton Park

Police are investigating after the attempted ramming of a police car and two police officers in Hampton Park this morning, Victoria Police say.

A police member was driving past a reserve on Campbell Drive about 3.40am when he noticed a vehicle was stationary with its lights on at the reserve.

The dark-coloured sedan was still there when police drove past again a short time later and the member pulled over to investigate.

The police vehicle pulled up behind the sedan and both police members on-board got out of their vehicle.

The driver of the sedan has then driven his car around and accelerated towards the police members and police vehicle.

Both police officers jumped out of the way and the sedan did not collide with the police car.

One of the police members then fired a shot at the sedan, with the round believed to have struck the car's rear bumper.

The sedan continued driving and left the scene. Police are yet to locate the unknown driver or the vehicle.

Neither police member was injured during the incident.

Police are investigating the incident which will be overseen by Professional Standards Command.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
