Police investigate firearms incident in Coburg

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce have released CCTV as part of an investigation into a firearms incident in Coburg last week, Victoria Police say.

It’s believed a black Holden Captiva was being pursued by a black Holden Cruze through the streets of Campbellfield just after 8.30pm on 9 February.

The vehicles were driving west along Mahoneys Road before turning on to Sydney Road and subsequently travelling south.

Just before 8.35pm, a silver Mercedes Benz 4x4 wagon appeared to start following the vehicles, with the three speeding and travelling through a red light.

The black vehicles then approached the intersection with Gaffney Street, stopping due to a red light, when a male occupant got out of a passenger seat of the Cruze.

He then approached the Captiva and it’s believed about six shots were fired from the Captiva at the man.

The man then ran back to his vehicle and jumped in the front seat.

The two black vehicles have then left the scene, travelling on the wrong side of the road along Gaffney Street.

Investigators believe both vehicles were being driven erratically and through red lights, causing other traffic to take evasive action.

The cars were last seen heading south along Sydney Road.

It’s not known whether anyone was injured as a result of the shooting.

Detectives from the Echo Taskforce are investigating the incident and have released CCTV and images of two vehicles they are hoping to identify.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incidents or with knowledge of the vehicles and their owners.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
