Port Phillip Council launches vaccination campaign

City of Port Phillip
Port Phillip business, arts and community identities are encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated against COVID-19 to help the City reopen - and stay open.

The Port Phillip Council social media campaign is aimed at boosting vaccination in the City which, along with several other inner-city municipalities, is experiencing lower first dose vaccination rates, particularly in Elwood and parts of St Kilda.

The campaign, which started this week, includes calls by Palais Theatre Venue Manager Lloyd Jones, Luna Park Executive Director Mary Stuart, Victorian Pride Centre Chair Hang Vo, Stokehouse restaurateur Frank van Haandel, St Kilda MEMO Music Hall, the Astor, Linden New Art, the Jewish Museum and South Melbourne Market traders for the community to get vaccinated so they can stay reopen or stay open.

Posts featuring different local identities will be rolled out over several weeks on the City of Port Phillip's Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages.

Port Phillip's hard-hit arts and hospitality industries are not the only ones joining the campaign.

Port Melbourne Colts Football Club representatives are also participating to highlight the huge impact of the pandemic on community sports. The community-managed Club's members could not play last year and only managed six matches this year.

Mayor Louise Crawford said many traders were counting on a successful summer to help recover from the economic impact of the pandemic.

"We have always said there is a social, as well as an economic impact, so we are also keen for everyone to be able to resume their daily lives as safely as possible and vaccination plays a tremendously important role in achieving this," Cr Crawford said.
