Premier backs tens of millions of cuts to health

Tasmanian Labor
  • Tens of millions to be cut from health and hospitals
  • More people will die needlessly in the health system
  • Tasmanians have to pay for Liberals dud budget
  • In Question Time today the Premier backed in tone deaf comments from his Treasurer regarding planned "efficiencies" in the Tasmanian health system.

Mr Hodgman's failure to detail the cuts planned only confirms one thing - that tens of millions of dollars will be cut from Tasmania's hospitals and the health system.

Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said more callous cuts to health would have a devastating impact on staff, patients and the community.

"The Premier and Treasurer's plan to cut millions from Tasmania's hospitals and health system beggars belief," Ms Lovell said.

"Our emergency departments are at breaking point, ambulances are ramped outside hospitals and elective surgery waiting lists are too long.

"Ripping tens of millions of dollars from the health budget will make things worse.

"Doctors, nurses, paramedics and health professionals are doing everything they can with the resources available.

"They have told terrible stories of people dying needlessly because this chaotic and dysfunctional Government won't take the health crisis seriously.

"How many more people need to die needlessly because of the Premier's warped priorities?"

    Shadow Health Minister
