The Premier has welcomed China’s announcement to cut tariffs and boost trade.
At the opening of the China International Import Expo, President Xi said his country would ease tariffs importing $US30 trillion worth of goods and $US10 trillion worth of services over the next 15 years.
"That’s good news for Queensland," the Premier said.
"China is already our biggest customer spending $24 billion over the last year.
"A more open Chinese economy and the signal to buy more can only be good for Queensland business and jobs."
The Premier is among 18 Presidents and Prime Ministers attending the CEII in Shanghai and is leading a delegation of 14 Queensland companies producing a range of products from health care to education.
"President Xi’s announcement about a willingness to invest in the training and education sectors is positive too," the Premier said.
"Chinese companies are particularly interested in Queensland childcare centre operators to train Chinese workers.
"Easing the one child policy is creating a huge demand for child care in China in addition to aged care and health care - areas in which Queensland excels."
Next year Queensland celebrates its 30th anniversary of a sister state relationship with Shanghai.
Queensland’s $77.6 billion exports are greater than NSW and Victoria combined. The figure rivals some nations at the CIIE.
The Premier will meet with senior officials of China’s Alibaba platform. The company has 48 supermarkets throughout China opening huge opportunities for Queensland produce.
It is also a huge online presence with more customers than Amazon and eBay combined.
"When Queensland businesses do well more people have jobs," the Premier said.
"Ultimately that’s what trade is all about."
