The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safe.
Since 2011, 136 Australians, including 18 children, have tragically died riding quad bikes with thousands more seriously injured.
This year, three Tasmanians have lost their lives due to quad bike accidents.
These are unacceptable numbers and this is why we have today launched the WorkSafe Tasmania 'Ride Safe' campaign.
The campaign aims to create positive behavioural change by encouraging quad bike operators to always be mindful about riding safely.
It features powerful television and print commercials which draw attention to the alarming number of quad bike fatalities that have occurred over the last decade in Tasmania and across Australia.
In doing so, the campaign highlights the life-saving importance of wearing a helmet, undertaking proper training and not letting children use adult-sized quad bikes.
The campaign also supports the other measures the Hodgman majority Liberal Government has recently taken such as the implementation of a safety rebate scheme to help farmers purchase rollover protection devices and free farm safety sessions held state-wide.
We also welcome the recent announcement by the Australian Government aimed at improving quad bike safety at a national level.
This includes a new safety standard that will see a wider range of information available for buyers, minimum standards for quad bike stability and mandatory rollover bar protection to reduce the risk of serious crush injuries and deaths.
The 'Ride Safe' campaign will run state-wide for three months and everyone can follow the conversation on WorkSafe Tasmania's Facebook page using the hashtag #ridesafe.
