Principal consultant appointed to new prison

The first new prison to be built in Queensland since 2012 is a significant step closer with the appointment of Guymer Bailey Architects as principal consultant for Southern Queensland Correctional Centre Phase 2 expansion.

The $618.8 million Phase 2 Expansion of SQCC, near Gatton, will deliver about 1000 beds for male prisoners and employ more than 500 people on completion.

The new facility will have a therapeutic approach, with a focus on mental health, drug and alcohol rehabilitation in a modern, purpose-built facility.

This will result in safer, less crowded, more effective prisons Statewide, which will help reduce recidivism and keep communities safer.

Guymer Bailey Architects has an award-winning track record in designing correctional centres and other public infrastructure projects.
