Producers across Western Queensland are urged to take measures to protect their livestock ahead of potential significant rain from ex Severe Tropical Cyclone (STC) Trevor next week.
Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner said the latest models showed the remains of ex STC Trevor possibly bringing widespread rainfall as it tracked south.
"While we remain hopeful many drought-stricken areas around the state may receive some useful rain, as we've seen recently, heavy falls, particularly after prolonged drought, can be devastating," Mr said.
"While forecasts do not predict prolonged rainfall, like the monsoon event in North West Queensland earlier this year, there is still the risk of flash flooding and inundation.
"I strongly encourage all producers across Western Queensland to monitor the latest weather reports and consider taking what measures they can to protect their stock.
"If there is risk of flooding, everyone on a property should be aware of their natural disaster plan and I urge all producers to use the specially-tailored natural disaster guides to help protect their property, business and livestock."
