Leeton Shire Council is offering residents two opportunities to hear from Professor Joseph Drew directly on Sunday 12 October 2025. These public meetings will coincide with his second visit to Leeton and will be a forum for the community to hear from Professor Drew about the University of Newcastle's Financial Sustainability Report for Leeton Shire Council which was published in August 2025. No bookings are required.
Public Meeting Details:
- Sunday, 12 October 2025, 1pm – Whitton Community Hall
- Sunday, 12 October 2025, 4pm – Leeton Visitor Information Centre
While in Leeton, Professor Drew will also meet with Council's newly established Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee (FSAC) for its inaugural meeting on Saturday, 11 October 2025. This session will focus on introductions, roles and principles, and will also tackle one of the recommendations from the Financial Sustainability Report authored by Professors Drew, Kim and Miyazaki.
Council will provide regular updates to the wider community following each FSAC meeting so that everyone can stay informed.
Professor Drew's schedule also includes meetings with Council's Senior Management Team, councillors, indoor and outdoor staff and community groups.
Mayor Cr George Weston said the meetings are an important chance for residents to stay engaged on Council's financial sustainability journey.
"Professor Drew's report offers insights into Council's financial position. While Council is not facing immediate liquidity concerns, our general fund is becoming increasingly challenged which needs timely and prudent action.
"These two public meetings will give members of our community the opportunity to ask Professor Drew questions about the recently published report, the work of the Financial Sustainability Advisory Committee, and any other queries they may have regarding Council's financial position and the steps ahead.
"We are grateful to Professor Drew for volunteering his time to meet with our community. He and Council are eager to bring Shire residents along on this important journey," he added.
