Progressing TasInsure: Cheaper. Fairer. Ours

Tasmanian Government

A Discussion Paper and preliminary draft legislation to establish TasInsure have been released for consultation.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said for too long Tasmanians have been under insuring, unable to get insurance or paying the price of disasters on the mainland.

"TasInsure will be affordable, locally owned and built for Tasmanians," Premier Rockliff said.

"In the past few years insurance premiums have skyrocketed.

"TasInsure will be a Tasmanian solution, at Tasmanian prices, and Tasmanian owned.

"We have outlined our proposed key outcomes and objectives for TasInsure, and we are calling on Tasmanians to have their say.

"Our Government is also seeking advice from a highly specialised consultant to provide advice in relation to the development, model and governance arrangements of TasInsure."

TasInsure is proposed to save Tasmanian households $250 and small businesses thousands per year.

"TasInsure won't be for profit: it will be affordable, locally owned and built for Tasmanians," Premier Rockliff said.

"It will make it easier for cafes, restaurants, wineries, breweries and distilleries to turn a profit, employ more people and continue to drive economic growth.

"Our Liberal Government is getting on with the job and delivering for Tasmania."

TasInsurer will be cheaper, fairer, Tasmanian.

Feedback on the Discussion Paper and the Preliminary Draft Bill will close on 9 January 2026.
