Property crime arrests in Townsville overnight

Townsville police have made several arrests overnight following Property Crime Unit investigations into a break and enter, a theft and a stolen car, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged that in early August, a set of keys were stolen from a government building on Lannercost Street in Ingham, and expensive clothes and a coin collection were stolen from a home in McHardie Street in Gulliver.

While police were executing a search warrant at Gulliver address in relation to an unrelated matter, they located a number of items including foreign currency which was positively identified as having been allegedly stolen from McHardie Street.

They also located cannabis seeds, ammunition, fireworks and equipment and chemicals suspected to have been used to produce drugs.

Overnight, police located a 52-year-old Gulliver man in a vehicle parked at the rear of the Castletown shopping centre.

He was arrested and transported to the Watch House where he was charged with one count each of possess explosives (fireworks and ammunition), burglary and commit indictable offence, enter premises and commit indictable offence, possess utensils, possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property.

He appeared briefly before the Townsville Magistrates Court this morning where bail was denied and ordered to reappear on Monday.

Four people were also arrested last night after being located in a stolen car.

Police were conducting patrols when they observed a vehicle which had allegedly been stolen from a hotel on Ross River Road at Aitkenvale early on Friday.

All four were arrested.

A 23-year-old West End (Townsville) man was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was refused police bail appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court today where he was remanded in custody to reappear on September 27.

A 24-year-old Vincent women was also given a Notice to Appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court to answer the charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possess dangerous drugs.

Investigations into that matter continue.

The Townsville Property Crime Unit works closely with general duties officers and detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch and Child Protection Investigation Unit to target offenders – often recidivists – who steal cars and break into homes.

Police will continue to target those type of offences and put offenders before the Courts as part of a commitment to keep the people of Townsville safe.
