Protecting Our Places Grants Program Launches

The NSW Environmental Trust's Protecting Our Places grants program is now open, inviting Aboriginal groups and organisations across NSW to apply for funding to support communities caring for country.

Funding will help restore and preserve environments and protect sites of cultural significance within the landscape.

Applications are open until Friday 31 July 2026, with grants of between $150,000 and $250,000 available for projects that deliver both environmental improvement and positive cultural outcomes.

This year, the Environmental Trust has increased total program funding to $1 million, reflecting a continued commitment to supporting Aboriginal-led environmental stewardship and cultural outcomes. The maximum individual grant amount has also increased to better support long-term, meaningful outcomes for Country.

Established in 2002, the Protecting Our Places program supports Aboriginal communities to protect, restore and manage culturally significant landscapes and waterways across NSW, contributing to broader NSW Government environmental and cultural priorities.
