Protecting Tasmania's Historic Heritage Sites

The Australian Government is investing $800,000 to preserve historic sites in Tasmania. This funding is part of the Local Environmental Projects Program.

It will support works at Woolmers Estate and Brickendon Estate. These places are part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.

The projects will:

  • repair and maintain heritage buildings
  • improve facilities for visitors
  • help preserve the sites for future generations.

The investment includes:

  • $400,000 to the Woolmers Foundation to support the maintenance and works to improve the visitor experience.
  • $400,000 to the Brickendon Trust to fund maintenance and building upgrades.

These are the first projects announced under the Local Environmental Projects Program. These projects will help local communities care for nature and protect our heritage.
