A man has been arrested after allegedly impersonating a State Emergency Services (SES) volunteer during a protest in Brisbane City this morning.
Around 7.30am a man wearing orange SES overalls and cap was spoken to by police in King George Square after he was seen handing out protest flyers and directing traffic.
A 29-year-old man from Woody Point was charged with impersonating an authorised rescue officer under the Fire and Emergency Services Act.
"Every person has a right to assemble peacefully to protest but not in a way that impacts on public safety and order or on the rights and freedoms of other people," said Acting Chief Superintendent Tony Fleming
"The QPS will continue to support people's right to protest peacefully and in accordance with the law. Outside that we will hold protestors accountable including putting them before the court to be dealt with appropriately," he said.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 14.
