PSOs rescue man from McKinnon fire

A fire at unit in McKinnon this morning has led to a 56-year-old man being rescued, Victoria Police say.

Protective Services Officers were patrolling McKinnon railway station just after 12.30am when they noticed smoke coming from a nearby unit.

The PSOs called the job in and a number of other police units attended the scene.

The members tried to gain access to the premises but were hampered by smoke.

The officers managed to make contact with the only occupant inside the unit.

He was unable to get out of the home as he was wheelchair bound.

Fire crews arrived and assisted in helping the man to safety.

The man was treated by Ambulance crews and was taken to hospital for observation.
