PSPA declaration, Southport

Police have made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) due to an unfolding incident at Southport on the Gold Coast.

The declaration was made at approximately 8.45am with boundaries encompassing Bay Street between Davenport Street and Rawlins Street.

Police were called to Bay Street around 8.20am after three grenades and three firearms were surrendered to an office building. No threats have been made.

Residents within the exclusion zone are urged to stay inside their properties, while occupants of the office building have been evacuated.

Police are currently conducting emergency operations in the area and requesting members of the public not attend the area
