Public appeal: Serious crash, Southport

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed a serious traffic crash at Southport yesterday morning, to come forward.

Preliminary information indicates that at around 9am, a 90-year-old man was attempting to exit a secure garage on Lather Street, when he lost control of his vehicle and accelerated through the closed garage door and across the street, clipping a parked vehicle on the opposite side of the road, before colliding with an electricity pole.

The man sustained lacerations to his head and knee and was suffering chest pains when he was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Sadly, he passed away this morning.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed - or has dash-camera vision – of this crash to come forward.
