Public assistance required - Speeding vehicles - Darwin

Darwin Traffic Operations are requesting public assistance in relation to two incidents involving high speeds on our roads overnight.

Senior Sergeant Tony Bennett said just after 8:00pm yesterday police recorded a black BMW sedan travelling at 197 km/h inbound on Tiger Brennan Drive, Northern Territory Police say.

"Officers turned around and activated lights and sirens, the BMW failed to stop and the pursuit was terminated. The last recorded speed was 225 km/h.

"Around 8:30pm the same traffic unit recorded a white Holden Cruze sedan speeding in Parap. The vehicle reached speeds of 100 km/h on Dick Ward Drive and pursuit was again terminated.

"Police are extremely concerned that both drivers displayed a total lack of thought for other road users.

"Both pursuits were terminated for the protection of everyone involved."

Senior Sergeant Bennett said investigations are continuing and anyone who may have witnessed either vehicle or may have dash camera vision to please contact police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers.
