Cybercrime Squad detectives have charged a public servant following an investigation into an alleged data breach.

On Sunday 19 April 2026, police received a report that more than 5,600 sensitive government documents had been allegedly accessed and downloaded by a staff member.

Detectives attached to State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad were notified and commenced an investigation under Strike Force Civic.

Following inquiries, about 1.30pm yesterday (Monday 20 April 2026) strike force detectives arrested a 45-year-old man in Sydney's CBD, who was taken to Day Street Police Station.

About 6.45pm yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Homebush West, allegedly seizing electronic devices including a hard drive.

The 45-year-old man was charged with access/modify restricted data held in computer.

He was granted conditional bail to face Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 3 June 2026.

Police believe all the alleged stolen data has been located and secured and there was no external compromise to the agency's system.
