Pursuit, man charged, NSW

A man will appear in court today after a pursuit with a stolen car in Lake Macquarie yesterday, NSW Police say.

On Thursday yesterday, a silver Subaru Forester was allegedly stolen during a break in at a home in Bolton Point.

About 4pm today, police were patrolling Main Road, Fennel Bay, when they spotted the vehicle.

Police attempted to stop it however the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. However the pursuit was terminated shortly after in Toronto due to dangerous manner of driving.

The vehicle was later found discarded at a shopping centre in Toronto.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended, assisted by the Police Dog Unit.

Following an extensive search of the Toronto CBD, a 38-year-old man was arrested.

Police will allege the man had also been involved in a previous domestic related incident.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with fourteen offences, including:

- Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic) (x2)

- Destroy or damage property (DV)

- Shoplifting

- Common assault (DV)

- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

- Skye’s Law (police pursuit)

- Never licensed person drive on road

- Use unregistered vehicle

- Enter enclosed land without lawful excuse

- Assault officer in execution of duty

- Resist officer in execution of duty

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
