Townsville residents are being encouraged to be part of an expected 300,000 Australians who participate in Australia's largest community tree planting event on National Tree Day this Sunday.
Townsville City Council will be hosting the annual event at the Ross River Dam Borrow Pits, where locals can do their part to contribute to their local habitat.
The day will include educational talks and displays, complimentary refreshments, and a free native plant to be taken home upon completion of the event.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said each year the Council looked forward to holding the tree planting event to show support for National Tree Day.
"This event has proven to be effective in getting community members to become involved in environmental activities and increasing their education surrounding environmental impacts and changes," Cr Soars said.
The community planting event will be held from 8:30am to 10:00am on Sunday, August 8 at the Ross River Dam Borrow Pits.
"We recognise that this event helps build community connections, whilst allowing locals to revisit the site each year and see the progress of their trees," Cr Soars said.
"Come along and get involved in this great day out to help make Townsville a greener place to live."
