Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday expressed confidence that Moscow and London would preserve and enhance bilateral cooperation, the Kremlin’s press service said in a statement dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.
On Saturday, Elizabeth II is celebrating her 90th birthday. Despite the fact that she was born on April 21, the official birthday ceremony is held in June.
“The head of Russian state… expressed confidence in further development of constructive cooperation in different spheres for benefit of Russian and UK nations, on behalf of strengthening international security and stability,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Putin mentioned a rich history of relations between the two countries.
The relations between the two nations have deteriorated in 2014 amid the crisis in Ukraine. The European Union, the United States and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea seceded from Ukraine and reunified with Russia in 2014 and Moscow was accused of meddling in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations.
