QPS helps host national celebration of African Australians

Queensland played host to the Celebration of African Australians National Awards over the weekend, Queensland Police say.

On Saturday 19, nominees from around the country converged to celebrate and recognise influential community leaders within the African Australian community.

Held at the Brisbane City Hall, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) were proud to present the Friend of Africa- Community Services of the Year Awards. At the ceremony, Victorian Police Officer Arsene J Bounda received the Professional Excellence of the Year Award. Constable Bounda is the first African police officer in the state of Victoria.

On hand to present the awards were QPS Police Liaison Officer Alma Apai Ball and Acting Inspector Brook Dwyer.

Celebration of African Australians Inc along with the Queensland African Communities Council host the awards annually to distinguish the various ways in which Africans contribute to Australian society.
