The Queensland Resources Council has welcomed the completion of AGL's Cooper Gap Wind Farm with a full capacity of 453 megawatts or the equivalent renewable energy to power 264,000 homes.
QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the 123 wind turbine farm was a leading example of Queensland's co-existence model.
"Queensland can thank the coal seam gas industry for investing more than a billion dollars in upgrading the transmission infrastructure across the Darling Downs which enabled a whole second wave of renewable investment to follow behind the gas industry," Mr Macfarlane said.
"The addition of AGL's Cooper Gap Wind Farm is another step in making Queensland the energy superpower of Australia. Queensland should make full use of its abundance of energy resources, ranging from coal, to gas, to hydro and renewables.
"Queensland is home to the nation's youngest and most efficient coal-fired power fleet. Our extra coal-fired electricity flows across the border and keeps the lights on in the southern states.
"By adding Coopers Gap to the mix, Queensland will further consolidate its role as a heavy lifter in the National Electricity Market.
"We hope to see even more investment in the full range of energy resources, because the bottom line is that Queensland industry and Queensland homes need reliable power around the clock, at a price they can afford."
