QRL and QPS combine for fundraising effort

Commissioner Ian Stewart and Queensland State of Origin coach Kevin Walters presented The Wesley Hospital Choices Cancer Support Centre with the signed bonnet from the QPS 2017 State of Origin vehicle for fundraising purposes.

Commissioner Stewart said that this unique piece of history would be auctioned at a later date to support the work of the Choices Cancer Support Centre.

"I would like to acknowledge the work of Eagers Holden, OzLed and our partners at the Public Safety Business Agency for their generosity in preparing this police vehicle for the support it gave to the victorious Queensland State of Origin team."

"There are names that appear on this bonnet that will never appear again in an active State of Origin team which makes it even more appealing.

"I think this is a wonderful partnership and I thank the QRL and the 2017 State of Origin team. The beneficiary will be The Wesley Hospital, and funds raised will continue to support their staff in providing quality care to members of our community diagnosed with cancer," Commissioner Stewart said.

Queensland State of Origin coach Kevin Walters thanked those who had been involved in the initiative.

"It was a great State of Origin series but it pales in comparison to the great work being done by the Queensland Police Service to keep the state safe."

"The bonnet features the signatures of a winning Queensland team and no doubt some immortals.

"This will raise some great money for the charity," Kevin Walters said.

The Wesley Hospital General Manager Michael Krieg said that the bonnet will be auctioned in the near future.

"The money will go to the Choices Cancer Support Centre and importantly we rely on volunteers and fundraisers efforts to support that program."

"The program supports anyone with suffering cancer in the state so this is a significant donation to continue that work," Michael Krieg said.
