The Crisafulli Government is delivering a fresh start for Queensland's vibrant arts sector, with the launch of a new fund today to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and organisations who develop new performing arts work. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Development Fund recognises the importance of sharing Queensland stories to wider audiences and showcasing exceptional visual arts to global markets.

The new fund delivers on the Crisafulli Government's plan, Queensland's Time to Shine: a 10-year strategy for arts and culture and maximises opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and creatives.

The fund will support projects with up to $70,000 to create new performing arts work by Queensland-based individuals, groups and organisations across a range of fields, including live theatre, dance, circus and musical theatre.

A dedicated visual arts market development stream with funding of up to $30,000 will support creatives to gain global exposure to showcase or exhibit their design works at international galleries, museums, or markets.

Additional funding of up to $10,000 is also available across both funding streams to support costs related to the participation of artists and audiences with disability.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said maximising opportunities for Queensland artists on the world stage was a key priority. "This fund builds on several plans being delivered by the Crisafulli Government to support Indigenous artists and creatives to connect them with new market opportunities and help put Queensland's vibrant arts scene on the map," Minister Langbroek said.

"Demand for authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and cultural experiences from Queensland continues to grow and we are delivering a plan to ensure the sector goes from strength to strength.

"Our commitment to invest in the development of new creative works, projects and experiences by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives is a key part of Queensland's Time to Shine – our 10-year strategy for arts and culture.

"After a decade of decline under the former Labor Government, we are committed to deliver a thriving creative sector with a portfolio investment of $420.7 million which includes a cultural legacy plan, an arts education and creative careers roadmap, and increased support for regional arts and culture.  "The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Development Fund will ensure artists, creative professionals and businesses are positioned to thrive as we prepare for the enormous opportunities of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games."
