A man has been charged with outstanding warrants for alleged aggravated break enter and steal offences after being extradited from Queensland.
In December 2023, detectives from Tweed/Byron Police District formed Strike Force Bibil, to investigate a significant increase in break, enter and steal offences on pharmacies within the Tweed/Byron area.
Between 25-26 November 2023, three pharmacies in Banora Point, Pottsville and Casuarina were broken into and property consisting of prescribed medication was stolen.
On each occasion, entry was gained by smashing a front window with a hammer.
On 16 January 2025, a pharmacy at Casuarina was again targeted, with prescription medication allegedly stolen. Entry was gained by smashing the front window.
Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District responded to the break and enter at Casuarina and engaged in a pursuit with a blue Toyota Echo sedan, which was seen to leave the pharmacy.
That pursuit was terminated at the Queensland border due to safety concerns.
Following extensive investigations by officers from Strike Force Bibil, earlier today (Monday 2 June 2025), detectives travelled to Brisbane Magistrates Court, where they applied for and were granted extradition of a 21-year-old man.
The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where the man was charged with four counts of aggravated break, enter and steal in company.
The man was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow (Tuesday 3 June 2025).
Inquiries continue under Strike Force Bibil.
