Queensland Police Earns Bronze for LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has been awarded Bronze Tier Status in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), the leading national benchmark for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in workplaces across Australia.

This recognition reflects QPS's ongoing commitment to building a workforce that represents the rich diversity of the communities we serve.

Developed in 2010, the AWEI provides a comprehensive roadmap for organisations to create inclusive, safe, and supportive workplaces for LGBTQIA+ employees by assessing progress across policy, practice and lived experience.

Achieving Bronze Tier Status acknowledges the collective efforts of QPS employees and allies who have championed inclusivity, visibility, and understanding across all levels of the organisation, with a unified goal of creating meaningful cultural change.

Acting Executive Director of the Communications, Culture and Engagement Division, Simon Kelly, said that this milestone demonstrates the QPS's dedication to ensuring every member of our workforce feels valued and respected.

"This accreditation is an important step in our ongoing journey to strengthen LGBTQIA+ inclusion and create a workplace where everyone can be their authentic selves," Acting Executive Director Kelly said.

"We are proud of the progress we've made and remain focused on ensuring that every person - no matter their sexuality, gender identity or expression - feels safe, supported, and respected within the organisation."

QPS Pride Network Coordinator Marcus Testoni acknowledged the achievement as a proud milestone for the organisation.

"Achieving Bronze Accreditation reaffirms our commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported," Mr Testoni said.

"Diversity and inclusion are integral to how we serve our communities and support our people. This recognition reflects the dedication of our Pride Network and staff across QPS to embed equality in everything we do."

The AWEI ranking highlights the QPS's progress in diversity and inclusion initiatives, including employee-led advocacy, awareness campaigns, and policy reforms. It also underscores QPS's ongoing commitment to being an inclusive, fair and respectful employer.

Achieving Bronze status is a testament to the QPS's vision of becoming an employer of choice - one that champions equality, respect, and belonging for all.
