Commissioner Ian Stewart and Police Minister Bill Byrne today released the Queensland Police Service Annual Statistical Review which reports an increase of six percent in the state’s overall crime rate.

Over the 10-year period from 2006/07 to 2015/16, Queensland has recorded decreases in the rate of offences against the person by 19.3 percent and offences against property by 21 percent.

Commissioner Stewart said the Statistical Review was one component of the Service’s overall performance management and accountability framework and also had a strategic role.

"In order to help ensure the safety and security of Queenslanders, the Service continues to formulate relevant and innovative policing strategies," Commissioner Stewart said.

"The information contained in the Statistical Review, when combined with other data, supports evidence based strategic decision making.

"The Queensland Police Service is committed to stopping crime and supports the Government’s objectives of delivering quality frontline services and building safe, caring and connected communities.

"We aim to do this through greater use of technology and innovation to deliver a more integrated policing service within an environment of continuous improvement.

"I would like to thank all members of the Service, the community and our partners for their ongoing efforts and commitment."

In Queensland the number of Domestic and Family Violence Applications increased from 25,143 in 2014/15 to 29,938 in 2015/16, or 18 percent in the rate of applications per 100,000 person.

"In 2015/16, approximately 73 percent of applications were police initiated," Commissioner Stewart said.

"Domestic and Family Violence Orders are civil orders, however if the respondent breaks conditions in the order they are committing a criminal offence."

The number of breaches to Domestic and Family Violence Protection Orders increased from 16,388 in 2014/15 to 22,853 in 2015/16.

"The QPS is committed to working in partnership with the people of Queensland to provide professional policing services that will, over time, prevent and reduce the incidents of domestic violence in Queensland," Commissioner Stewart said.

The Annual Statistical Review 2015-16 is available on the QPS website.
