  • A major overhaul of Unit C4 at Callide Power Station is almost complete and on track to return to service ahead of the high-demand winter peak.
  • The $60 million overhaul is backed by the Crisafulli Government's Electricity Maintenance Guarantee, after the former Labor Government's decade of inaction resulted in Callide C4 exploding and remaining offline for more than 1,000 days.
  • The Crisafulli Government's Energy Roadmap is delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable power for Queenslanders.
  • The Crisafulli Government is delivering a better lifestyle through a stronger economy and driving down Queenslanders' power bills after they skyrocketed 19.9 per cent in one year under Labor.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering on its commitment to invest in Queensland's energy system network – after it was left to deteriorate by Labor – with a major overhaul of Unit C4 at Callide Power Station almost complete.

The $60 million overhaul of the 420-megawatt unit is being delivered under the Crisafulli Government's Electricity Maintenance Guarantee and the Energy Roadmap's focus on improving existing assets while building what is needed for the future.

Under Labor, Queensland experienced one of its worst power outages in history when Callide C4 exploded and left more than half a million people without power and remained offline for more than 1,000 days.

The Crisafulli Government's Energy Roadmap is already delivering for Queenslanders, with the Queensland Competition Authority determining energy prices will come down from 1 July, with households in regional Queensland to see a 6.9 per cent decrease in power bills and 8.1 per cent for small businesses.

The 77-day overhaul or more than 160,000 hours of work included extensive inspections, equipment upgrades and component replacements to ensure the unit's continued safe and reliable operation.

Unit C3 was also included as part of the overhaul to allow maintenance on shared infrastructure that requires both units to be offline simultaneously, ensuring work is carried out safely and effectively.

Both systems will be online by 26 June in time for the high-demand winter peak season, and the maintenance program follows the successful completion of a separate $80 million overhaul of the Unit C3 in November 2025.

Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki said the overhaul demonstrated the Crisafulli Government's commitment to managing and maintaining Queensland's critical energy assets responsibly.

"Putting downward pressure on power bills for Queensland households and businesses is this Government's priority, and that means investing in the assets we already have, while we build what we need for the future," Treasurer Janetzki said.

"Callide plays a vital role in Queensland's energy supply with the power station capable of powering up to 1.9 million homes.

"Through the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee, we're delivering the maintenance of our existing assets.

"This overhaul alone is contributing more than $13 million into the Central Queensland economy through local suppliers, with a peak workforce of 470 people supporting local accommodation, hospitality and service business across the Biloela region."

Member for Callide Bryson Head said the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee had the added benefits of driving the economy and local jobs into the region.

"This overhaul alone is contributing more than $13 million into the Central Queensland economy through local suppliers, with a peak workforce of 470 people supporting local accommodation, hospitality and service business across the Biloela region," Mr Head said.

CS Energy's portfolio delivered average availability of more than 95 per cent in the March quarter 2026, underscoring the value of disciplined maintenance investment.

CS Energy Acting Chief Executive Officer Tony Bellas said the overhaul was a major undertaking involving months of careful planning and preparation.

"Our priority is delivering this work safely, on time and on budget, so that Callide C can continue to support Queensland's energy needs," Mr Bellas said.

"More than 160,000 hours of work will be completed across this overhaul, and I want to thank the entire overhaul team for their professionalism and commitment."
