The Crisafulli Government has announced the appointment of Troy Ayres as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Queensland Academy of Sport.
Mr Ayres' appointment follows an international search conducted by an appointed panel to lead the Queensland Academy of Sport following its transition to a statutory body.
The Crisafulli Government delivered the transition within 10 months, a year faster than the timeline proposed by the former Labor Government.
Widely regarded as a collaborative and pragmatic leader, Mr Ayres brings a reputation of delivering results while fostering alignment, engagement, and innovation.
Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander said Mr Ayres' appointment would ensure the Academy continues delivering world class outcomes for Queensland.
"The Queensland Academy of Sport is a world leader when it comes to high performance sport," Minister Mander said.
"The Crisafulli Government is determined to set our athletes up to deliver an unmatched performance at the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and this appointment is a crucial step on that journey.
"Troy's strategic foresight has been evident as he has led the Academy through a significant period of transformation.
"We trust he will ensure the QAS continues to push boundaries to maintain its reputation for producing some of the world's best athletes."
Queensland Academy of Sport CEO Troy Ayres said it was an incredible honour to be appointed to the role.
"I am very proud of the highly skilled QAS team, and I look forward to working with them and tackling our very ambitious goals on and off the sporting field," Mr Ayres said.
"It is imperative that we continue to build on our strong relationships with our sport partners, to ensure we can provide world class support to the athletes and coaches to achieve podium success."
"We are very fortunate to have such great support from the Queensland Government so we can capitalise on the amazing opportunities as we head towards Brisbane 2032 and beyond."
Academy Chair David Lyons also welcomed the appointment, having worked with Mr Ayres over the last three months.
"Troy demonstrated a profound understanding of high-performance sport, coupled with his experience in navigating complex government and statutory environments," Mr Lyons said.
"His calm and considered leadership approach has led the Academy through its transition to a statutory body and I look forward to working with Troy and Minister Mander on the runway to LA 2028 and of course our home Games in 2032.
