Queenslander Scoops Near $2M Saturday Lotto Jackpot

An Atherton resident couldn't contain his exhilaration after discovering he had won $1.8 million in the recent Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

The Tablelands man had one of the 11 division one winning tickets for the Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4409 held on 21 October 2023, securing a grand prize of $1,818,181.82.

Detailing the moment of his discovery, the Queenslander remarked “I’m over the moon” when the lottery officials contacted.

The win was especially astonishing since he had just casually purchased a ticket during a Saturday morning drive at Summers Newsagency. To confirm the surreal moment, he recounted scanning the ticket multiple times on his phone, unable to believe the large sum he saw.

He and his family celebrated the windfall with a delightful dinner and a few toasts. With dreams of retirement, the recent win might expedite those plans.

“This is the icing on the cake!” he jubilantly exclaimed.

The lucky ticket, a System 7 entry, was procured from Summers Newsagency located at 25B Main Street in Atherton. The newsagency's owner, Helen Williams, was equally ecstatic about the win, especially since it had been over two years since their last division one winning ticket was sold. She expressed her delight in having transformed the life of a regular patron, “We wish our division one winner all the best with their million-dollar win and congratulate them on their prize!”

The golden numbers that changed these lives were 30, 29, 7, 2, 31, and 12, with 9 and 33 as supplementary numbers.  You can find the breakdown of the divisional winnings here: Saturday Lotto Superdraw 4409 Makes 11 Millionaires.

Across Australia, there were 11 division one winning entries for this particular draw – four in Queensland, four in New South Wales, two in Victoria and one in Tasmania.

For context, the Saturday Lotto is a national draw that occurs weekly. While known as TattsLotto in Victoria, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory, it's called Saturday Lotto in New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Western Australia. Queensland residents refer to it as Gold Lotto, and in South Australia, it's named Saturday X Lotto.
