"R U in Control" for International Fraud Week?

This week is International Fraud week and it’s a timely reminder to update all your passwords and secure your devices, Queensland Police say.

  • If you use a password based on a name, it can be easily broken.  Hackers know many people use passwords starting with a capital letter, which is based on a name and finishes with a number.
  • A strong password should have eight or more characters, including letters, numbers and symbols.
  • Ensure you secure your networks and devices with antivirus software and a strong firewall.  Avoid using public computers or WiFi "hotspots" to access your personal information.
  • Update your computer’s operating system, your internet browser and the software on your mobile devices. Updates generally include the latest security patches.
