Racing For Health Awareness At Sandown Greyhounds

The Andrews Labor Government is partnering with Sandown Greyhound Racing Club to help raise awareness of men’s health issues.

The Labor Government is providing almost $12,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support the 2018 Man’s Night race meeting at Sandown on Thursday 27 September, as part of a $42,000 joint funding package.

A crowd of 1,200 people are expected to flock to the track for the event, which will help raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Children will also be kept amused with a range of free activities including a basketball arcade game, handball carnival game, face painting and an inflatable interactive ride.

Patrons will have the chance to win a variety of raffle prizes including tool kits, Fitbits and car care kits, with proceeds being donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The club will also make a $10,000 donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia as part of the race night activities and contribute more than $30,000 towards the event.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided almost $875,000 to support two infrastructure projects and 27 greyhound race meetings at Sandown.

The racing industry in metropolitan Melbourne generates more than $1.5 billion for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain over 13,590 full-time equivalent jobs locally.

As noted by Minister for Racing Martin Pakula

"This is a great community event that helps raise awareness of men’s health issues and much needed funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia."

"We’re investing in greyhound racing events across Victoria because they help boost tourism and create local jobs."

As noted by Sandown Greyhound Racing Club Chief Executive Officer Greg Miller

"We thank the Victorian Government for supporting our 2018 Man’s Night race meeting, with this year promising to be our best event yet."

"We encourage everyone to head to the track for a top night of racing and entertainment for the whole family."
