Ram raid at Ballina shopping centre

Police are investigating a ram raid at a north coast shopping centre this morning.

About 4.10am (Tuesday 24 March 2020), a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were working inside a shopping centre on Kerr Street, Ballina, when they heard a loud bang.

Police have been told three men, with their faces covered, got out of a silver Subaru before approaching the pair armed with a baseball bat, a knife and a hammer.

The three men demanded the man and woman's wallets and mobile phones before holding them against their will.

The trio then used their vehicle to enter two jewellery stores where they stole a number of items.

The three men left the scene in the Subaru and the woman's Great Wall 4WD; the Subaru was later located torched at Barlows Road, West Ballina.

Officers from Richmond Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Police are urging anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the nearby area between 3.30am and 5am or who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact Ballina Police on 6681 8699 or to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
