Ram raid at high end store in CBD

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a high-end designer store shop front was smashed during a ram raid in Melbourne this morning.

Police have been told a white 4WD utility reversed into the Collins Street store about 3.20am.

It's understood two men then got out of the 4WD and entered the store through the smashed glass window, armed with a crowbar or similar and yellow wheelie bins.

The pair loaded with bins with various luxury goods including handbags.

The trio, who were all wearing balaclavas, left the scene driving east on Collins Street, north on Russell Street and were last seen heading down Rathdowne Street.

A crime scene has been set up while investigators work to establish the value and description of what has been taken from the store.
